I think so - especially when one considers how REITs have struggled for years!
I hold shares of the IAA, iShares ETF's real estate sector. It is 46% for the year. In the past he has paid dearly, including (but not this year).
If you go to the REIT, I recommend that you diversify. Do not put a single action. Get an ETF in the industry or sector fund.
